Pretty sure they were saying uppercase was easier to spell and that by using that word instead of capital they could have avoided this whole embarrassment, but I could be wrong.
And, on a similar topic, I started to type whole as hole 😛
All the times I’ve seen this strip before, and I only just now realized that there isn’t some other unseen guy that Tony’s talking to who could be referred to as “Big Al” with a straight face.
These were sort of an artifact of the original newspaper-style format. Back in the days of my youth, Sunday strips were often completely separate from the continuity of the dailies. They were an opportunity to jump to something else for one day before getting back to the story proper. (This was done in newspapers mostly because not all newspapers ran both Sundays and dailies, so cartoonists would make sure no important story was missed in the Sundays by doing something else.) Since I was a student of these times, ever so often in late Roomies! (and probably early It’s Walky!, I forget), instead of using the Sundays to further the story, sometimes it’d use the Sundays to peek at something else going on elsewhere.
The drama is leaking in! It’s almost here!
I like to imagine that Alan’s final line is actually coming directly from his chest, as the word balloon suggests.
I’m pretty sure it’s not impossible, honestly.
Look at his HUMAN eyes!
HE IS completely normal, and NOThing is whatsoever wrong with him. No weirdness here, just your everyday run-of-the-mill HUMAN.
Spoilers, sweetie ah, who am I kidding.
(Dina and Howard’s baby becoming The Cheese was a bigger surprise IMHO.)
Behold my HUMAN laser!

I’ve always loved the insistence on using the exclamation point in the title, even if capitol letters apparently aren’t as necessary.
I didn’t know you could make letters with domed parliament buildings…
I should have just said uppercase.
It’s much easier to spell.
Apparently not, since it’s “capital.” 😉

A capitol capital.
Forgot the link: A capitol capital…

Capital, my good chap!
Maybe she’ll even be useful as a distraction. Or a meat shield. Just throwing out some ideas.
Wait, is Tony seriously calling Alan “Big Al”?
All the times I’ve seen this strip before, and I only just now realized that there isn’t some other unseen guy that Tony’s talking to who could be referred to as “Big Al” with a straight face.
It’d be more accurate to call him Medium-Sized Al.
…dammit, Regular. Regular-Size Al. Guh.
For some reason, he prefers ‘Small, Purple Al’.
-Makes Zoidberg noises and escapes-
I have a character who’s nicknamed “Big D.”
D is short.
It’s a fucking nickname, it doesn’t have to make sense.
Sal’s got the footwork. Joyce has the big blue eyes.
‘Big’ Al?
You’d rather he use “Big Bot”?
Aah, I feel the PSL for Sal flooding back now… I like this Sal much more than the DoA Sal… I guess I’m just not into tattoos or smoking.
By my count we should be getting to It’s Walky! next month. Can’t wait this trip down Roomies Memory lane has gotten a touch old now.
I’m ready for the good stuff.
Well, that was a jarring scene shift.

I seem to recall whole Sundays of LATE IW! Premium-esque content that you held for ransom until people chipped in for like $100/page!
Woah, woah, woah, if you shoot her now then you’ll be out one meat shield during actual combat.
Thief: Hm, the cannon fodder angle. I can get behind that.
RM: It’s certainly no good being in front of it.

Help, I can’t stop these 8-Bit Theater references!
Oh, and it amuses me that Tony’s just standing around chatting on his primitive smartphone while Sal’s doing all the work.
