You’re involved with that girl
on January 5, 2017 at 12:01 amChapter: Naked
Location: Squad 48's apartment
Squad 48 is very into being open and communicative with one’s partner(s). Â Marcie’s very into hitting people with bats. Â Sometimes these interests intersect.
Looks like Joe won’t be having fun anymore with Squad 48.

That’s not how ballbusting works Marcie, you’re supposed to aim for the OTHER head.
He wouldn’t be doing much running after that!
What’s wrong with Sierra?
That’s just a ditto.
For Breeding purposes…wait what?
Now I’m imagining soft resetting the Walkyverse for a shiny Joyce.
Joe, first rule of poly/open relationships – open and honest communication. Bad Joe!
I like how Mandy knows Marcie is into hitting people with bats and let’s her go off on Joe. Fun times.
(I think you can take this as a breakup, Joe. If not….you really should).
Joe could have explained that one better.
Alright, I was wrong. Two strips ago wasn’t the definitive Squad 48 strip. This is. Two strips ago is more like the definitive Joe.
Also that thing with bats sounds neither safe nor sane, but what do I know? Is that a real thing? Or is that a ‘I enjoy hitting people with bats outside kink’ way?
It’s clearly retribution and not a kink in this scenario. Although most abductees have at least some degree of body hardening, so it might not be as crazy unsafe as it sounds if she only hits fellow abductees with bats.
Fair enough, bats are fun.
I wonder if that’s a thing in real life kink. Probably with plastic bats rather than wooden ones, but what do I know?
Pretty sure that’d fall under sadism.
I guess, though I must admit, I’ve never heard of bats being entailed.
We didn’t get to see this gift of Marcie in DoA. She’d hit it up (ha ha) with Sarah pretty well.
Maybe DoA Marcie just likes hitting people in general? After all she did join a roller derby league.
Give her time.
It’s a swing and a miss for Joe, but Marcie gets a knockout!
Am I the only one here who doesn’t think Joe really did anything wrong?
I mean, I can at least see the argument for why he did do Joyce wrong (though I don’t agree with that either; if Joyce wanted a serious exclusive relationship with Joe she should have said so), but Squad 48? What, did they all sit down and agree that the six of them would be exclusive with each other?
Are we really supposed to believe that the five women who all pretty much immediately started having orgies with Joe were 1. not fucking other people as well and 2. honestly expected Joe to not be fucking other people? Hell, he wasn’t fucking anyone else, so apparently they expected him to not even hang out with other people? Yeesh.
If I somehow stumble into a situation where five women are all fucking me at the same time within hours of meeting me, I’m not going to assume that means I’m now the steady boyfriend of, um, those five women.
But maybe they did agree to that arrangement off-panel. Maybe these five women see themselves as one sexual entity and want monogamy, odd as that is. Even if so, that one sexual entity is a scary asshole if they’re ready to beat their boyfriend with a bat for watching cartoons with another woman.
I mean, here’s the thing–I highly doubt Squad 48 knows the first thing about Joyce. All they know is that this woman stumbled into their apartment, recognized the man they were fucking, and became distraught. Plus, Joe felt the need to apologize, and is not doing a great job of explaining himself here. I dunno about you but with no outside context this looks an awful lot like “Joe got caught cheating.”
And believe it or not, yeah–poly groups who are big on, if not exclusivity, at least being honest (which Joe doesn’t appear to have been with Joyce) are fairly common among poly groups in general. You’re being needlessly kinda jerky about that.
Yeah this isn’t that Squad 48 being mad that he cheated on them, they’re upset because, to them, it looks like Joe was caught cheating on his girlfriend with them.
Poly only works if EVERYONE is aware of the situation. I’d be pretty upset if I found out a poly partner of mine had not told one of their other partners about their other relationships. Because then it stops being a poly relationship and starts being cheating.
Now whether Joe did anything wrong with Joyce is debatable. They were not an actual couple. They never agreed to be exclusive. He probably should have mentioned it to her at some point when he found the relationship heading in that direction, but I can see how they would have gotten different ideas about what their relationship was. But, again, Squad 48 doesn’t know that. All they know is this girl saw them together and started crying, suggesting that Joe was involved with her and she was not okay or aware of the situation.
Now wait a second. I never said that poly groups can’t be exclusive. I even stated that this might have been the case due to something that happened off panel. But going by what’s actually shown in the comic, the relationship between Squad 48 and Joe is a lot more akin to Hugh Hefner and the Playboy bunnies than any sort of negotiated 6-way poly arrangement. The portrayal of Squad 48 has basically been 1. boy shows up 2. everyone fucks the boy pretty much immediately. That these women are free-love hippies makes a lot more sense with what the comic has shown than that they like to arrange exclusive poly relationships with whoever Semme assigns to be their sixth roommate.
If Squad 48 was actually angry that Joe was cheating on Joyce with them, that’s even worse! He didn’t! They are violently kicking him out of his home for something he didn’t bloody do! Joe should have explained the complicated emotional situation better? When? Immediately after being interrupted during sex? During the ten seconds of crying and yelling coming from that person? Joe only got SIXTEEN words out of his mouth before S48 starts beating him! But because Joe not only process all this and explain it like a wiki within 30 seconds it’s all his fault. Come on.
Here, let’s just change a few names in this scenario and see who you think is in the wrong. Danny is falling in love with Dorothy, but to Dorothy Danny is just a friend. Danny never says anything about his feelings, so Dorothy thinks they’re just good platonic buddies. One day, Danny bursts in on Dorothy and her boyfriend Walky having sex. Danny breaks down crying and runs away. In response, Walky hits Dorothy and chases her out of the house with a baseball bat, either because he thinks she was cheating or because she hurt Danny (it’s unclear, as violent rages tend to be). Is Dorothy the bad guy in this scenario? Or is Dorothy being treated, shall we say, needlessly kinda jerky?
Let’s note that context is a thing. Joe is pretty well known as the philanderer of SEMME, it’s not exactly like they don’t have cause to expect he might do something like that.
“I have cause to suspect that you did a bad thing & I’m not entirely sure what that bad thing is that you may have not actually done. I have no choice but to beat you with a bat & chase you shirtless out of your own apartment.”
I see what you’re saying. Bad S48 this is what happens when we ASSUME.
The reason it seems like they’re upset is it seems like either they didn’t know he was running around with Joyce or Joyce didn’t know they were still fucking. Either scenario is not poly, it’s cheating. If he’d just said ‘we’re not dating, she just got emotionally invested in a crush, I guess’ that’d be one thing. But he said it’s ‘not supposed to be’ which sounds like he accidentally stumbled into cheating.
I think Squad 48 is pissed on Joyce’s behalf. They may be okay with Joe doing other women, but they don’t want Joe cheating on other women with them.
And while the lack of communication about what the terms of the Joe/Joyce relationship are is on both of them, I put more of the blame on Joe, because he knows Joyce well enough to know what her expectations are likely to be, while I’m not sure that Joyce understands that there can be other expectations – and Joe knows her well enough to know that, too.
Reading some strips beforehand I can definitely see a reading where Joyce interprets at least some of them hanging out as dates. Moreso recently.
And here we see the Internet Pornlord entering his pupal stage, where he’s okay with drawing comics about naked people so long as all the naughty bits are just out of view.
Yeah, I’m amused by how carefully this strip is staged so that all the naughty bits are hidden by arms, shoulders, bats, etc.
I was right, Joe doesn’t have a clue. It seems, however, that Marcie is about to happily apply one.
Just throwing this idea out there:
This orgy. Remade. On Slipshine.
(I think it’d work)
Definitely. We must see what Marcie & Guns were doing.
Well at least Marcie’s being polite and helping Joe finish before they kick him out.
I don’t think that’s what “whacking him off” is supposed to mean.
“Frolicking.”
