You like taking risks?
on October 27, 2017 at 12:01 amChapter: Crash Course
Location: Underwater Alien headquarters
Ah, phew. I honestly hadn’t remembered I subverted the idea of Wildcard Dumbass. You go, young me. You’re okay after all.
This does play pretty well into what makes Monkey Master himself. Squad 128 and Head Alien are more than happy to play drama at each other, but Monkey Master is more… practical.
Isn’t Head Alien also here?
well he doesn’t need air, he’s in a space suit
He’d better hope he’s not too deep to use his space suit, though: https://www.quora.com/Could-I-go-deep-sea-diving-in-an-astronauts-space-suit
“How many pressures of atmosphere can this ship take?”
“Um, 1?”
*cracking and leaking begins*
“Well it’s a spaceship, so I’d say anywhere between zero and one.”
What do you mean by “Wildcard Dumbass”?
Walky.
It looked like he was going to be this super-competent hero when he’d only actually been trying for about five seconds, and everyone else just had to shut up and come along for the craaaaazy ride. Even Walky Willis apparently couldn’t remember if it was going to be that absurdly simple.
Fortunately, it looks like one of Walky’s decisions has turned out badly, so we’re not obliged to be that impressed by a dude who was literally peeing on people a few strips ago.
David “Walky” Walkerton: Wildcard Dumbass.
I feel like I was more pompous than I meant to be in this comment? Or maybe it’s just the Jason avatar. Uh, I’d just like to reassure myself and everyone that the above is just my interpretation, YMMV, in case it really is kind of pompous-reading.
no, no, no apologies. valid reading.
I had forgotten about this strip, but it’s actually one of my favorites. I love the action of the flooding panels interspersed with the steadiness and coldness of the Monkey Master panels. The way the water is just about to reach his eyes in panel 4 makes it even better.
Did they just forget they have breathing devices?
Monkey Master never saw the rebreathers.
I would think them having rebreathers would seem likely given how they originally broke the dome, but also, rebreathers won’t protect them from getting sloshed around, which poses tactical problems.
*Searches TV Tropes for “Wildcard Dumbass”*
See y’all in a week!
Nooooooo!!! Curse you! Now I also feel compelled to search TV Tropes!
and this, walky, is why you don’t try to bluff with just bravado and a hand from a completely different game – you end up drowning thanks to a mechanical ape that has an identity crisis and calls itself a monkey
it’s a very important and practical life lesson we all had to learn 😀
Tony: “And with my last breath, I curse Walkerton!”
Tony would actually make a pretty decent Hamlet at this point, I suddenly realize.
