I think the point here is that Walky feels guilty for Dina’s death – and that he wasn’t a better friend to her (and his beating-up of Mike was an attempt to displace some of those feelings onto Mike). One doesn’t necessarily need to be super-close friends with someone else to feel guilty and/or responsible for their death.
