The respect it deserves
on February 25, 2015 at 12:01 amI’ve been tagging the location on these strips as “DP451’s dorm room,” though it’s definitely possible that by this point Alex has graduated. Â But it felt kind of excessive and also too much extra tedious work to create a separate location titled “DP451’s other room” or whatever. Â It’s effectively the same setting.
Okay… my looking up what that means didn’t lead me anywhere. Historical context please?
E-chain letters? It’s like regular chain letters, only through email. Otherwise not sure what you’re looking for.
I just realized that I haven’t gotten any of that crap in years. I guess it’s all moved over to Facebook?
OH! There’s an I in there. I thought it was E-Chan letters.
At one point, they put chain letters on paper. In fact, they put all letters on paper. Ya, they don’t do that any more, but they use to.
In the Beforetimes, the Long-Long Ago, when men and women needed must venture forth from their homes to find pornography…

chain e-letters would make more sense
O.O
Willis, you may want to redraw Jason’s gun in the banner, it looks like he’s about to shoot Joyce in the head!
cannot unsee
Only because she is standing in the way of Walky.
No, it’s tilted too high up to be hitting him directly, but not high enough up for it to be a gravity-aided shot. Further more, they seem to be outside, so nothing to ricochet off of.
Maybe if it was Walky….
Welp, now it’s changed hands in my head. Someone really needs to teach Joyce gun safety.
And I just realized they are ordered by race: White British guy in the back, White Americans, then Walky and Sal – Half African American, Half white.
This is just so messed up. I mean, I know Willis either never meant for it to be or REALLY meant for it to be (as a joke), but it’s still messed up.
the fuck is wrong with you
Well, she is ‘Crazy Dina’.
I’ve looked on Wikipedia, but I can’t seem to find the correct order to put the races in. The fact that it seems to consist of both skin colour and country of origin must make it a really complicated list.
Do you want the full list, or only what’s relevant?
it’s called being an attention whore. “me me me pay attention to me, negative attention is still attention”
@Dragon, I will admit that I do hunger for attention, indeed you would too if you could not communicate to your peers in real life. However, that is NOT what brought this on. I am part of many online communities so that I don’t have to relish in negative attention, and this has shown to be mostly effective.
Let me point out a few not-so-obvious facts for you.
1. I have no life. These comics online tend to fill in for the things I don’t get to do because I can’t make any predictions about my work levels at school.
2. My mind is most likely not like yours. I often have to try to wrestle with teachers and others because my intelligence does not match others, although I am just as smart. As evidence, I’d cite the type of school I am going to, however this is the internet and I don’t feel comfortable giving it out. Just know that I am in an advanced education program.
3. I would up being white, and it’s scholarship season. When you are Caucasian and have no life, you tend to become much more aware of race because most scholarships for those who aren’t in special programs, such as leadership or theater, have a requirement that the applicant be a minority.
4. My mind is highly analytical of literature. This you could not yet know because of how little you see of me. Once something catches my eye, I analyze it. I can send you a two-page analysis on Evil if you would like.
5. “Whore” is a gender charged term – the term whore generally refers to females who engage in prostitution.
6. the fact that you think someone calling me crazy is considered “negative attention” is quite insulting. I often go out of my way to be abnormal. Unfortunately, other than the effect on my subconscious, this is an irrelevant fact.
7. As stated before, I have no social life. The people I am surrounded with right now have highly conflicting value systems and don’t particularly want to talk to me about anything I can talk about. I don’t believe that desiring to have some sort of community at all counts as being an “attention whore”. If I were, say, attempting to troll people to get attention, I might agree with you, but merely pointing out my observations, which were a little abnormal, in a forum meant for doing so, is NOT being an attention whore.
8. I have had to make a conscious effort to learn all of the social rules. Not just the special ones for being online, but ALL of them. Any mistakes I make online or elsewhere simply shows that I am still learning the rules, and that that particular one I either haven’t learned yet, or have yet to get it engrained in me enough that I don’t break it when I loose control of myself. This does happen occasionally, but I do usually regret things I said and did during this time period.
I apologize for the wall of text. Next time I will use pastebin if the comment exceeds two real paragraphs.
the best way to deal, is to consider the other person, and to shut the hell up, because they most likely want attention that you would give them
Crazy Dina: You sound like you’re autistic, there. Not an insult, just an observation. I’m actually autistic as well.
They’re actually ordered by power level: zero in back, over 9000 in front.
When actually noticing, I would think it just has the more main characters up front, because the story focuses and follows their lives more.
And that makes complete sense to order it that way, because it is a banner advertising who is in the story.
David let us all know it is a height thing, which makes sense, visually.
Pretty simple stuff.
OK, I’ll bite. Could you maybe try to explain what’s “messed up” about their order?
1. the whitist guy is in the middle
2. IF Willis meant to do that, then it’s social commentary. The class system is harsh to those who are not pure “white” (I’d use the other word if I could spell it.) Essentially, the focus is on the African americains, who are both the front line and those most thought of as “people of color”. On top of that (or behind, if you will, you have the white guy who is the least prepared for the situation he is in, yet managed to be the leader of the team. What’s more, only he has a weapon showing – a sign of privilege.
Alternatively, I am way off and should stick to reinterpreting Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog a 5th time.
The tallest guy is in the back. Because he’s the tallest.
You’re a person who filled DoA’s comments section with friggin’ posts about how another poster’s skintone looked like “poop,” and then started deflecting by saying his posts were somehow worse when he rightfully got angry with you. I had to clean up this shit from my website on my fucking vacation, using expensive and frustratingly slow midatlantic Internet. So I really feel like you should shut up about race forever. It is not a topic in which you have demonstrated any kind of sensitivity. In fact, I feel so strongly about this that I have decided you will not respond to this thread with anything. No “buts” or even “sorries,” just a quiet, unspoken acknowledgement. No paragraphs, no sentences, not even a word. Come back tomorrow, maybe, and start a new comment thread about other things.
If you can’t do this, then don’t post here.
And you posted a response anyway. Your reading comprehension is exceptional. *spam folder*
The focus is on the main character, Walky, followed by the next two main characters. It’s pretty natural that Sal would be across from him and Joyce next to him.
That leaves Jason and Mike, and yes, Willis happened to put the one in charge in the middle.
So I think your complaint really comes down to the British guy being in charge. I guess that could be a small sign of something messed up, if there were indications it was the result of some consistent bias.
…don’t really think the two main characters having darker skin provides that consistency, though.
I’m not sure how Jason is more “white” than Joyce. Both in the sense of either of them having any non-white ancestors, and also in terms of how they act. I am British myself though, so that might “colour” (hahahahahaha) my perception of what makes someone “white”.
Still, this is a crazy conversation and I will stop as Willis has asked.
Why didn’t anyone point out that in fact, one could argue that, you know, the racial minorities are IN FRONT?
Well, one sees what they want to see, and the author’s explanation is logical enough (highest at the back) and pretty sufficient.
Or, maybe, we could go real paranoid there and say that he CHOSE racial minorities to be smaller on purpose.
Cause you know, if we can get paranoid, why not go all the way?
And he looks so happy, too.
So, the first time I read ‘e-chain’ as ‘eCHAN’.
THERE’S a terrifying image.
Their symbol is a clover with a number of leaves equal to an infinite sum of the reciprocals of all factorials.
Yeah but this is like 3(?) years older than 4chan (I wish these comics had the original posting date…). Admittedly, 2ch and 2chan are older, but they were virtually unknown in the west back then.
Oh yeah, I know the timing doesn’t match up, I’m just saying the image is terrifying.
“Who’s DarkPower541? I don’t know anyone here by that name, you must have the wrong room.”
Man, Alex is preposterously ballsy. Government officers busting down his door, and he’s all like “dude it’s 451″.
If only I could be that audacious in the grasp of my enemies.
Meh, it’s just SEMME, they’ll probably suffer massive casualties just opening the door. They kinda suck.
Well maybe they shouldn’t have named their secret agency “See Me” with the ‘m’s duplicated instead of the ‘e’s!
How did it get in my head today that Walky was the one dispatched to capture Alex?
…kind of plausible, though, considering he’s at about the right levels of competence and maturity to misread the name and then corrupt it in the most juvenile way available.
Maybe he has graduated, but they haven’t been able to pry him away from his network connection long enough to get him out of the dorm room.
I dunno, Alex strikes me as the “eternal student” type. It has been established he never leaves his dorm room, which means he never shows up in classes. The only way for him to graduate is to hack into the university computer to manipulate his test results.
You think he hasn’t?
E-CHAIN ! YOU BASTERD ! (Don’t know what’s that is either)
I think it means he’ll e-mail them stories that end with “Forward this e-mail to (insert number here) friends or (something horrible will happen).”
“If you REALLY love Jesus, you’ll prove it by forwarding this obviously bogus story about Darwin converting to Christianity on his deathbed to everyone in your address book. BUT if you’re ashamed of your beliefs, just close this message and go on with your day. But remember, Jesus is always watching.”
It’s at DP451’s personal computer, and that’s what’s important.
heh heh heh DP. XD
Heh DP 69.
Crazy Dina you have got to be shittin’ us with that ‘in order’ comment. Good Grief.
E chains. Alex dumps a ton off email addresses to the Semme computer’ s contact list, which then uses their computer to spam every address on it with thousands of email spam. Makes the Semme computer function as his computer.
Either Forces DoS sometimes; if computer can’t handle it: or sometimes, those guys got paid for all the email ads they could drop, and that worked.
On the other hand it is Semme. How many email address can they have in their contact list? A few govt. agents, maybe the president hehe.
… I’m not. It’s either coincidental, or a point. And yes, there is reason to question my sanity, but I don’t think this is one.
SEMME – We don’t kick down your door, we knock and rudely as you to open up.
Man, I wish I could see this “controversial” banner image that caused so much drama.
