Sometimes, yeah. I mean there’s the weirdass gender reveal parties but there’s also a lot of people who think that’s weird as hell, and it’s not as though it’s a guarantee either way
I think the people who keep it secret from everyone else are usually trying to keep family members from meddling in things like decorating and clothes and toys and stuff. They don’t wanna deal with someone saying, “Oh but you can’t paint the nursery blue if you’re having a girl!!!” and honestly…valid lol
I will add, however, that a few days ago/last week when I was being shifty about a spoiler – it was that their kid is female sexed. I don’t know why I remembered that, but I did.
(I should really think out my posts for a few minutes before hitting submit)
THEN AGAIN, my husband’s parents “KNEW” they were having a girl, only for my husband to show up with a different genital set
(then again AGAIN… well, guess I shouldn’t out anybody, even anybody who decided not going through puberty a SECOND time was more valuable than exploring suppressed feelings)
Pfft, people talk weird about their genitals all the time.
I mean, the power of boners (And ladyboners) will make you betray a lot of beliefs you held sacred-
She’s your half-sister, DJ. That’s really all that should matter to you right now. Potentially ahead are two decades of her being the needy and entitled little brat that you feel driven to protect only to find at the end that she doesn’t need your help at all but that doesn’t stop her from loving you with all her heart.
Being born from a different mother wasn’t a big enough hint?
At least they have the Danny half in common.
Coming back to this: I suppose they didn’t want to know until birth? Is that a thing people still do?

We did.
It’s a wonderful additional surprise when you get your little bundle of joy from the hands of the nurse!
What I don’t get is people who want to know the gender, then keep it a secret for the rest of the world.

I’ve commented on the main point previously.

Yeah, I initially read it as “we knew the baby was ___” but then I remembered the “we want it to be a surprise” option
As in, I thought they were keeping it secret from others, not themselves, guess I no read gud

I mean… half the chromosomes? Maybe?
Maybe it’s just because I don’t have one, but referring to your genitals as ‘lil *Your name*’ or Name Jr or the like just weirds me out.
Then again I do refer to my cramping as being caused by uterus/endometrium hornets, so I guess I’m not exactly one to talk.

She’s actually got ever so slightly MORE chromosomes than he does.

Family is weird like that.
Having not read this arc before, I’m assuming the newborn baby DJ is not named Daniel then.
Of course not. She’s named Ruth.
They could still name her “Danielle”.
Checking Walkypedia, we don’t actually know how this DJ’s name expands out.
I choose to assume it’s Donna Jo.
