You want double walls filled with batt insulation, and an air gap between them. My neighbors have little kids, and they have to be running around or yelling right up near the shared wall for me to hear them.
My old place had none of these things, but it did have a downstairs neighbor with a high end stereo system. My floor vibrated when he watched NCIS.
She hadn’t talk to him to realize his horribleness first hand… even if she knows he will nitpick her cristianity. Difference between it can be horrible or it can be toedad horrible.
In fairness in this universe he’s just kind of a pushy asshole so far, and has not to our knowledge tried to conversion-therapy anyone or wave a rifle around.
Even “personal honesty should always come first”, which sounds like a principle anyone can get behind, is actually kind of the opposite of what Ross was saying here instead of something extracted from his view.
He’s probably not entirely wrong, but only in the sense that he was clearly standing on his legs instead of pancreas and breathing oxygen instead of saltpeter.
It’s more like I can’t really grasp what Joyce’s “both sides” argument IS, here. Okay, honesty is good, got that. Joyce will never be a proponent of casual sex and her sex life with Walky is something she couldn’t have if they didn’t FEEL married… sure.
But Ross even frowns on married sex when it’s not for making babies: he’s SO far to the right of that that he might as well be on another planet. It seems more like Joyce had some unarticulated, lingering thoughts about shacking up with Walky– not doubts exactly, more like qualifiers– and she took this opportunity to articulate them. Good for her, I guess, but still.
… I feel like I don’t get the punchline.
What does Joyce even mean by setting a good example?
Being quiet?
Having more, louder sex to demonstrate their love?
Being honest about… something?
Not being assholes in general?
Like, I even went back to my old J&W files to check the next few comics in the hopes that they would provide context, but nope.
So… what does she even mean?!
**has an existential crisis**
I can only imagine that by “set a good example” she means not being pushy jerks like him. It’s really the only thing that makes any kind of sense to me.

Same

Is that a fundie thing? Some particular flavor of fundie? The Catholic Church is ok with sex within marriage which isn’t for the purpose of procreation — i.e. its ok to enjoy sex as an expression of love within a Curch sanctioned marriage — so long as procreaction is not blocked, i.e. no artificial birth control. (Obviously this doctrine leads to more pregnancies than would occur if people had sex only to procreate, so make of that what you will.)
I’m not going to lie, at first I thought she was saying “He’s not entirely wrong, we should probably try to keep the noise down to avoid bothering our neighbors”.
give him some good examples of soundproofing
(actually I’m amazed we never had any problems with the other residents in our apartments)

Joyce, for what you just said to make Toedad wrong, he would have to be actually making a point remotely consistent with what you just said.
In fairness in this universe he’s just kind of a pushy asshole so far, and has not to our knowledge tried to conversion-therapy anyone or wave a rifle around.
Hasn’t had a reason to yet.
I’m pretty sure Ross is entirely wrong, on almost everything.
Except about dancing. Dancing really is evil.
I say this because I have no coordination. Instead I have a scar on my face from tripping over the floor.

Maybe if they play porn videos really loud, he won’t hear their lovemaking?

Basically that. Don’t stoop to his level, show him how good neighbours behave.
Of course some good neighbours are indistinguishable from empty apartments BUT STILL

It
A good swift kick in the cajones should do the trick.
I’m not going to lie, at first I thought she was saying “He’s not entirely wrong, we should probably try to keep the noise down to avoid bothering our neighbors”.
Then I read the other panels.
