eek!
rendered fingernails!!!!
FingerNAILS? What are those?? o_O
They’re nails that grow from your fingers, of course! My question is, are they tenpenny nails? Roofing nails? Drywall nails? Carpet tacks? Railroad spikes?
One these days your going to haft to get past your fear of drawing close up anatomical body details.
That aside I see what Willis was going for here. It’s last moment’s of the finale hour and the situation has become absolutely Dire, You and the rest of the heroes have pull out all the stops in order to prevail but it seems like it’s not enough. You’ve only seen friends and allies drop dead around you through out the entire ordeal and it’s seems like certain doom is upon you all.
It was a miracle in it of itself that you made this far, so what do you do now? Pray for another. All you can do now is hope that when it’s all said and done that all the loses and sacrifices made weren’t for nothing. Weather you believe in a higher power or not the only thing left to do now is hope for a miracle.
I think Willis’ Slipshine is proof that he got over the fear of drawing close up anatomical body details.
Hey-oh!
Jason looks like he’s basically rolling his eyes. That’s a nice touch.
Somehow I didn’t notice that the previous times I’ve read this arc. For once I agree with Jason’s reaction to something.
I know Robin is probably meant to be looking at the Cheese, but her eyeline *also* points right at Billie’s rack.
Didn’t notice that. Thanks for pointing it out, lol.
Panel 7 confuses me. Is that a pec on Jason?
It’s his tactleneck.
Ah yes the tactical turtleneck, comes in dark black and slightly darker black
Okay, I can sort of see that, but doesn’t that put his hand awfully high for taking hers?
I’ve lost track, is Robin Gay-but-in-Denial or Bi-but-in-Denial here? Either way, you’d think this might give her a clue
Not about you Sal
Sal, who took off her gloves. This truly is The End of The World as we Know It!
Yo.
Walky wasn’t in the tags yesterday, but he is today. That “yo” must be him. The only clearer confirmation would be if The Cheese burped a cloud of Nachitos dust.
Uhhh… ok. Robin can run fast. Does she? I guess she was elsewhere and used her speed to join Sal and Joyce? I am unsure.
Uhhh… ok. Sal knew ahead of time that she was to enter the Cheese’s head? (“It should have been me”). How did she know this? Did Walky know this? Were they aware that David was already in there? (for that matter, were *we* aware that David was already in there before the big reveal? I’m guessing not, but it seems like the characters all know without ever finding out).
Uhhh… ok. That mass behind them is the Martians? And… uh… they are amassing to charge and destroy the heroes in one last swipe, because the heroes had successfully held them off to this point, without us ever actually seeing anyone fight them besides Mike (who died)? Am I correct, or am I reading this wrong?
I’m sorry, David. I’m a big fan of Dumbing of Age, and I’ve followed your comics for years now, so please take this as constructive criticism. But for the life of me I can’t tell what’s actually happening, and the pacing seems… odd, at best. I’ve read the whole story before, and I’m still lost.
I feel like I need a lot of commentary to get by in this strip, whereas I feel like Dumbing of Age is at times subtle but always self-contained (though sometimes fanon gets ahead of canon in the comments). I think we can just chalk it up to improvement

but it’s nice to hear I’ll not the only one confused
Don’t know how that posted twice, as I didn’t type it twice
FWIW, my impressions for your first question is I think she’s about to run and I’m hoping they tell us where soon.
Okay, my interpretations as best as I can tell.
First, HA, Anti-HA, Linda and Alan all seemed to be aware of what had happened with David Powers (never made clear how). Walky and Sal’s birth seems to have been designed to duplicate the same thing, but working correctly this time? Various comments they made seem to indicate this.
Second, yes Robin ran from where the Martian drones had gathered to where the others were and the mass is the drones catching up.
Third, the drones were doing a bang up job of killing everyone and destroying everything until the Cheese arrived. First David brand Cheese stopped them in their tracks and then HA brand Cheese took control of them. Once HA brand Cheese had control of them their purpose changed from “kill efficiently” to “provide dramatic support to my gloating” for the most part. They were still attacking people on the outskirts but HA brand Cheese had kept them away from the center of the action. Once the HA lost control of the Cheese, they recovered, regrouped and are now moving back in. It actually hasn’t been that long since HA lost control, so the Good Guys did get a small breather but not much of one.
Insert Egon Spengler going “Yo!” in a desperate attempt to fake being a construction worker here.
No, Walky, you are the gods.
And then Walky was a cheese.
