I thought the idea was that she and Walky had history when they were abducted by aliens as kids, and despite the mindwipe, Joyce retained Walky’s name and gave it to her dog, just like she did when her mind was wiped a second time and named the dog at SEMME Danny.
No matter what universe Carol is in, Joyce disappoints her. In one she befriends atheists and will not aid in the persecution of minorities and, in this one, she has a mixed-race boyfriend!
I’d feel sorry for her but I can’t dredge up the empathy for someone whose default mindset is to hate.
No, she simply believes Walky is just another fake boyfriend, like Joe. You’ll see soon that she actually is the most supportive of their relationship.
Joyce is a time-traveler from 1913. Checks out.
I forgot about that thing about her naming her dogs after her male crush obsessions.
So I guess this is like Indiana Jones in reverse, with the dog named after Walky.
Has she even been home long enough to name a new dog since she started crushing on Walky?

Yes.
“‘Twas brillig, and the slithy to’ves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe.”
(I have no idea how many people will get this, but it amuses me greatly.)
I’m sure I have no idea what you’re jabbering about, but perhaps if I take a little walky something will come up?
All mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”
I love that poem!
I love it as well. I have never understood it, however.

I thought she looked annoyed because Walky just flatten her petunias.
As lines to introduce a setting go you really can’t beat this strip’s title sentence.
I thought ” ‘ve ” was just broadly applicable as a contraction for “have” where have comes after another word. Would’ve, should’ve, had to’ve.
Stupid browser spellcheck doesn’t agree.
Joyce: to’ve
Me: that’s weird
Sal: had’t’ve
Me, a Southerner: much better
You say that like you’ve got any readers who’ve never said “had/has/have to’ve.” They just haven’t written it.
I’ve used “couldn’t’ve” before, so you know.

Get with the times!
It’s pronounced “t’ve” now!
So is anyone else’s first instinct to assume that Carol is racist?
I mean, it’s Carol
