Smile!

Oh, hey. I remember a bit back, I was wondering when Walky developed the little tufts of hair at the top of his head from the, uh, bumps that he had previously. Well, he seems to suddenly have them in this storyline. Like, they appeared because I wanted Walky to seem more slovenly, a more visible departure from his “mature” hair. And here those tufts are! And he’ll have them FOREVER.

I’m bored, and because of the reference in DOA and the similarity of the two characters (both being part alien goofballs with superpowers) I am going to try to decide who would win in a fight between David Walkerton and Steven Universe. (Small spoilers for Steven Universe…)
Okay…
Walky definialty has more lifting strength, given that he can lift the 20 ton Monkey Master, but it’s not a huge gap, as we’ve seen that Steven Can lift/jump with and throw a 1-2 ton stone statue. Steven is faster, I think, it’s hard to tell with Walky, but we’ve seen that Steven is fast enough to appear as a blur to a normal man. Walky has greater agility though, as we have yet to see Steven doing flips. Walky is limited however, in unique powers, while Steven has powers up the wazoo. Including, shield and bubble, shapeshifting, ability to control plants and create life, healing spit…
So, I think that Steven would win, but only if he was willing to go all out, which I don’t think Steven would. So…bloodlusted, Steven. Not bloodlusted Walky.
If Steven fuses, all bets are off.
No outside help, but it would be good to see Connie vs Jason.
Connie would kick his ass even without the huge sword almost entirely because Jason would see punching children as untoward behavior.
OH. I was thinking Conquest… that’d be a completely different fight =o
The main problem I see in your analysis is that Steven is most prone to try talking it out and doing everything he can to stop/prevent the fighting before he’ll really go all out except in cases of keeping (more) people from getting needlessly hurt. You can see this all through the series. Considering the above, Steven and Walky would just end up becoming very quick friends and we’d end on a group shot of Joyce, Walky, Steven and Connie watching anime and eating pizza together or something like that.
Now I want to write this fanfic
This is the correct take. Neither of them have enough malice in their hearts for the conflict to escalate beyond a simple dialogue.
Only tangentially relevant, but Steven would NEVER tell Connie to smile.
BAD WALKY. You do not grab people by the face or demand they smile for you. Dina’s being a jerk here by getting pissy he isn’t who she thought he was, but that doesn’t give you the right to be a boundary breaking buttface.
Hm, I didn’t really think boundaries were a thing in this relationship if one can jump the other in broad daylight.
Boundaries are always a thing. Just because someone wants you to touch them in one situation doesn’t mean it’s okay to always touch them.
And generally people don’t appreciate being touched when they’re angry with someone.
It’s the difference between legitimately caring about someone else and caring only about your own comfort. I absolutely *hate* when people order me to smile, even if I’m not mad but just relaxing. If someone wants me to smile, they should tell a joke or comment about something wonderful in the world.
We’re just about there.
Yeah, this relationship is doomed, and that’s for best really.
He got the tufts from Joyce farting on his head.
I like how meticulously did Dan work on matching two most incompatible people ever.
Also, is it just me, or is IW! Dina a couple orders of magnitude less likable than DoA Dina?
It must be because of the hat. Not as cute like the dino one.
I’m not sure how likable IW! Dina was supposed to be in the first place. I mean, Walky started dating her to get back at Joyce/rub it in her face and she’s clearly meant to be seen as a less compatible love interest than Joyce, considering that the main source of conflict between her and Walky is that they’re at different maturity levels with different ultimate goals and interests, something that he doesn’t have going on with Joyce.
And needless to say, in this kind of storyline, as an audience, we tend to be naturally predisposed /against/ Dina. She’s dating Walky, something that we know and can see very clearly, is a bad match. We can tell that it’s going to be a temporary relationship from the beginning because Walky and Joyce are ment 2 b. Not only that, but as Walky’s a protagonist and a viewpoint character, we tend to relate to him, especially with most of his characterization being a fun, immature, slightly obnoxious, but ultimately Good guy, so when another character comes in and wants to completely change the traits about him that make him ‘fun’ so he better fits into what they find desirable… well.
DoA Dina, on the other hand, doesn’t have ANY of that going on at all. So that’s in her favor. Dina is also more easily relatable and sympathetic in DoA because 1. her neurodivergent tendencies and behaviors are more on display and easily identifiable, 2. cuteness factor (see: dinosaur hat, dinosaur hoody), 3. she’s visibly queer and in a healthy relationship, 4. she’s not, as of yet, done anything that would turn audiences away from her
This relationship is a work of art, really. I can’t decide which of their behaviors I find worse. It’s like they play off of each other to bring out their worst qualities.
I really hope they break up sooner than later.
his hair is demonstrative.
Never, under any circumstances, be Walky’s babysitter.
You will die.
