This is disturbingly familiar. My Dad was military during the ’60s and ’70s, and we moved constantly during that era, with 8th grade being my worst year. I registered for 4 different schools and actually got to attend 2 of them between moves. Yes we got moved between registering and the first day in school twice in one 9 month period. One was expected, we had a planned move coming up but we had to register for the next grade anyway, the other was a “Whoops, sorry but we changed our minds.” deal. We didn’t have to move very far but it was far enough to require changing schools.
You ever notice that deconstructing the Manic Pixie Dream Girl is way more common than straight uses of the trope?
Probably because people finally realized “a girlfriend will solve all my problems” is kind of a horrible message to send.
More common? I don’t know about that–it shows up a lot, played straight. It’s just been getting some (deserved) backlash for the last few years.
“nineth”?
Problemeth?
Meth?
Well, I read *that* in Dexter’s voice… thanks 😀
memento mori
if the nineth lion ate the sun
nine nine nine
is it the best video game ever?
Yes it was! Someone else remembers!
Isn’t that particular line from Zero Escape, though? I need to get 999, sometime.
@Nezumi
Yes, it was from Virtue’s Last Reward. I must have been flaking out when I implied it was from 999.
Well, I do prefer 999 to VLR, though. Perhaps it was more of a sweeping reference to the Zero Escape series, albeit poorly phrased.
Those people in panel 3’s background are creepy.
I know it’s just the limitation of Past!Willis, but it kinda looks like the artist intentionally drew those people as uncanny abominations.
Aww, don’t be like that. Slendy and the Weeping Angels just want to be your friends. 😈
Those are Shadow Demons, this was the strip’s Crisis on Infinite Earths tie-in.
More like a class clown fallback shared by both twins.
Seems less Manic Pixie and more Drunken Buffoon, honestly.

Crap, that sucks. I was a military kid as well, but we didn’t move anywhere near that often. Averaged about every 3 years.
It’s a really good thing we have online schools now.
If you notice, the third line of the first panel is “nineth grade we,” which is an anagram of “the wine garden.”
“Like a giant garden with beer, or a garden with giant beer?”
