Sal, what are you doing down here?
on September 22, 2015 at 12:01 amChapter: Monkey Master
Location: Denver, Colorado
STUPID SAL, DON’T EVEN HAVE THE NERVE TO KILL YOURSELF, YOU’RE ALL TALK
I mean, that’s kind of what it read like to me at first. I think, upon re-reading the sequence, that she wants to compromise the mission by saving Big Boss? I don’t know. It’s not very clear.
Way to drop the mike.
No, Mike’s up on top of the giant ape.
Monkey master is really not paying attention is he
Why don’t you try paying attention when you have a Martian saucer on your head and monkey guns attached to your elbows.
Seems to me that Sal’s just beating herself up over the tiniest expression of emotion.
And Jason’s just really fed up with how repressive she is.
They’ll be in downtown Denver by the time they get around to blowing that bomb.
All as Alien Head intended !
Breaking News: SEMME destroys Denver with giant monkey bomb; lawsuits at 11:00.
diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick
Well, Jason, to me it looks like she’s trying to commit suicide to avoid dealing with thoughts and feelings that she is too maladjusted to handle.
Because sitting and pouting is far more effective, yes.
I’ve always been kind of confused by what’s supposed to be driving all this dramatic self-sacrifice in this arc (especially when they could, y’know, just bust Big Boss out, bail, and have Ms. Jetpack set M.M. up the bomb and fly away). I guess the author is good company there.
I think they’re not supposed to have the time to bust Big Boss out?
Maybe? I’m not sure any of us know.
Yeah, like, how did we get from “I’m useless!” to this weird “No, I’ll sacrifice myself!” dealie?
Given all the shit she’s gone through I kind of figured Sal wanted to die gloriously in battle.
VALHALLA AWAITS
WITNESS ME Y’ALL
What I’m getting here is Sal is conflicted, Jason’s a dick, and the situation is supposed to be far more dire than it comes across as.
What I took from that line is that Jason is calling out Sal on the fact that her whole “Duty and self-sacrifice above personal morality. The mission comes first. yadda yadda” isn’t a sincerely held conviction as much as it is a coping mechanism she’s using to avoid dealing with her guilt over shooting Tony. She’s convincing herself that it’s something she NEEDED to do to absolve herself of personal responsibility for it.
Not to say I think what she did was wrong. She saved Walky’s life. But her inability to process her guilt over that is what’s producing really self-destructive behavior.
Which is why she’s having a moment here, because having to sacrifice Big Boss is calling back to that original sacrifice
In what sense did Sal almost compromise the mission? If they’re planning to suicide-bomb Monkey Master for some reason, it doesn’t matter where Sal’s standing if she’s not the one with the bomb. She could’ve maybe busted Big Boss out and tried to climb down while they set off the charges.
I kind of like to think Monkey Master is just sort of watching all the different arguing and trying to figure out what the deal with Head Alien and these Teenagers With Attitude even is, and is gradually concluding that they’re all insane.
Saving Dina, I think.
Also, I think Ninja Rick has made sense of things pretty well. Although I don’t think there’s anywhere near enough provided information for that to be the *actual* reason. Even so, headcanon accepted!
