My name
on July 30, 2014 at 12:01 amJoyce is a little more persistent in learning about herself before she lost her memories in this newer iteration. She definitely was interested in the original, but it felt too passive to me. I thought that should change. Her asking more questions gets more exposition out of Walky anyway, which helps the narrative.
“WAIT HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME WHEN YOU WORK FOR SEMME TOO”
…nah, I barely knew all MY co-workers, like, EVAR so I guess it’s plausible
[also, I keep somehow not having co-workers anymore]
[[stupid economy]]
I know the names of maybe 5% of my co-workers. The ones in my immediate vicinity.
My work uses sign-ins from a computer that everyone can see. I am unashamed in saying that’s how I learn my coworker’s names (with a bit of guessing for who’s who)
I work in a teflon tubing production plant with a dozen other people on my shift. I know two of their names.
I have coworkers that I have known for years, and talk to regularly, and I don’t know their names.
Hey, Joyce probably remembers everyone she’s ever been introduced to since waking up with the depressing specificity that comes from being able to count them on two hands.
I’ve been working in the same shoulda-been-temporary job so long it went from “don’t need to know” to “far too late to ask” while I wasn’t looking.
Sad and hot. I totally didn’t sneak in and paint your nude figure. It’s not currently hanging on my wall right now.
Could be worse.
Could be Shinji.
“Dude, she’s in an amnesic coma”.
That’s unless your into Art modeling, because if so we can make something like that happen.
Piro from Megatokyo kept sneaking in to draw Sad Joyce In Snow. Major embarrassment to SEMME Security.
Well, he does know how to travel between the frames.
Why not ask doc?
I never want to ask Doc anything.
Joyce has probably had to push against the closing elevator door several times by now. Wonder if it’s started beeping angrily yet at being held open for so long.
Whenever an elevator does that to me it annoys the hell out of me, sometimes to the point where I smack the elevator cause I’m a crazy person ^<__<^;;
Amnesiac Coma or not, she’s still more likeable and alert than her …ah..future/parallel/other self.
That would be because of the mind wipe, all the fundy brainwashing is gone. She’s just a blank slate whose only instinct is to be nice.
Except when we meet the Browns later, they themselves don’t seem very fundy at all.
Dedicated to their beliefs, sure, but Carol does not look troubled one bit by the idea that Joyce could be a lesbian (and she really thought so).
I think it might be because the Browns mellowed a bit being a few years older at that point in the Walkyverse than in DoA (and in the Walkyverse, Joyce has so many older brothers that it’s not impossible that at least one of them had already come out as gay). For comparison, Ethan’s mom is pretty hostile to homosexuality in DoA but reluctantly accepting of it in Shortpacked, chalked up to the age difference between the two versions.
Particularly since she says all the brothers have failed her, which suggests that they’re all either infertile or gay or aro/ace or other such developments to prevent grandkids.
Wait doesn’t Walky introducing himself as Walky controdict future strips where he insists on people calling him Walkerton?
I mean I guess he’s using it since Joyce called him that but I’m not sure.
He hates the name due to repressed memories about Joyce. Since the two haven’t been interacting he hasn’t had those feelings triggered in a while.
Also, she already insisted on calling him Walky before, even if she doesn’t remember, and he went along with it, so he may be maintaining that.
