Yeah, the weird thing for me reading these without access to the original was if you had done every joke entirely from scratch or if you suddenly stopped being a decent gag writer after this arc. I see now that the real issue was that I’d failed to account for timing–with bigger pages and smaller text, the dialogue has more room to breath and you can get beat panels in there and stuff. Same jokes, better writing.
I love Its Walky! so much more than Roomies, but I still can’t stand Jason and his over exaggerated englishness. I’ve never heard anyone say ‘by the queen mother’ in my life.
I’m told that Englishmen removed from England prefer to exaggerate their own Englishness rather than attempt to fit in with the community in their new environment. I don’t have any firsthand experience with this, though, so I can’t back the claim myself. If it’s true, it’d certainly explain like half of Jason’s schtick.
Well, we could factor in that Jason was raised by Englishmen from an entirely different dimension and he’s here under false pretenses so may be playing up an exaggerated character.
I think panels 2 and 3 as they are are the cutest of everything Willis I’ve seen so far. I have half a mind to PS them into being next to each other and colour them and print them in big and hang them on my wall ≧o≦
