It’s the storm we all have to endure.
on July 16, 2019 at 12:01 amAnd we’re back, full It’s Walky! circle, in Washington, D.C., where it all began. Probably fewer Bill Clinton jokes this time, though!
We’re reeeally getting towards the end here, and so we’re taking a victory lap through some familiar faces as we wrap up. Hello, Bart O’Ryan! Hello, Sarah! Hello, Mary.
In case you’re wondering, yes, that one crate says “Ark of the Covenant” on it. I lifted the narration layers to read the others, and they’re marked “Jimmy Hoffa” and “Robo-Vac.”
Hey, it’s Daniel the dog! Yes, he exists!
And, yes, the reference Jason is missing, vis-a-vis the floating glove, is to the Bugs Bunny cartoon “Long-Haired Hare.” Bugs lifts his hand into the air to keep the jerky opera singer singing, but he leaves the glove itself floating there — maintaining his previous command to sing and not to stop — so that he can run off and do other things. What has Daniel been eating all this time?
The crate marked “Jimmy Hoffa” is empty now.
More importantly, how did he even get out of the crate?
Well Daniel has the PBR, I’m sure it’s plenty filling.
All this time I thought Jason was missing the reference he would need to understand the “It’s the Rain” speech
Same. Good grief, was I wrong
Same here! This chapter is one of my favorites and I’ve read it over many times, and each time I had this interpretation of it.
lol whoops same
Absolutely the same here, haha
I first read through IW! in 2005, so I have apparently spent 14 years wondering about that reference—in fact, when these re-runs first began, I immediately thought of this page. It’s quite satisfying to have that question answered, like pulling out a little brain splinter. (I’d been assuming it was a Transformers reference, so I’m fairly surprised it’s actually something I’ve seen, if not remembered.)
Guessing that it’s a Transformers reference is pretty safe territory here.
Only seven years for ke, but yeah, WOW, all this time, I’ve been completely baffled by that panel, and it just turns out to he a reference to one of my favourite Bugs Bunny moments?
Oh, so it’s floating, not falling. It’s harder to tell the difference in the comics medium.
Is it Sal’s glove, being used by Walky!Cheese to maintain the “freeze” command he gave the Martians? I thought it was just falling, too…
ALL THESE YEARS I thought it was a reference to some dramatic moment in some other piece of fiction in which a glove floats down over the proceedings.
But it was floating. I somehow never realized that!
Now that I finally know, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
Kind of like you are floating????
David, did you write “It’s the Rain” yourself? Or did it get borrowed from somewhere and I missed the reference?
Somehow I’d missed the glove for years and just thought Jason was referring to the “it’s the rain” speech.
You are not the only one.
I’ll add to the list of “I thought the glove was incidental and Jason was referring to the narration” train. I think it works either way, FWIW.
Honestly, I never even noticed the glove.
And here I thought the Ark of the Covenant was in some warehouse in the middle of nowhere, Nevada.
What is Cheesewalky shocked at? His sudden acquisition of superpowers?
Beautiful Indiana Jones reference with the government and ark and in boxes etc. =D
daniel! the most important character
