I’m very fortunate that my parents understand and accept that there’s a good chance they’ll never have grandkids. They’re obviously disappointed but they don’t pressure my brother or me. My grandmother, however…
John is the kind of cold jerk who’d probably wind up getting serially divorced.
Jocelyne may not be on speaking terms with Carol.
Justin and Jared have an odd problem where they pop in and out of existence at the most inconvenient times.
And Jordan? We don’t talk about Jordan.
I’m still stuck on the whole Mrs. Brown has five sons that she’s given up on having kids. Jocelyne is trans, not gay, but Mrs. Brown wouldn’t see a difference. Which means her other sons are Jewish, Atheist, Canadian, etc. All of which disqualify you for having children.
Naomi seems to have taken over this role in DoA, for better or worse.
I’m sort of secretly fascinated by her, because I can’t shake the impression that there’s an incredible tale of how a non-Orthodox Jew was socialized into what she is today, potentially by pressure on her family to assimilate to the norms of the community she was raised in. Or does homophobia bleed more readily into Conservative, Reformed, and nonsecular Jewish communities in the southern US than in, say, the northeast? I always took it for granted that we were ahead of the game on this topic (a 2013 Pew Research Center poll put Jewish support for gay marriage at 83%, well ahead of the rest of the country), but the truth of it is that I don’t know how Jewish communities outside of New York driving range operate.
I have no idea if DoA’s scope covers topics like these but I’d be excited to see them explored!
Nah it doesn’t really take that much. I was in a suburban New York Hebrew school from second grade on–you know how many of my classmates were homophobes just by virtue of being preteen/teen guys? Hell, we had at least one teacher who, when we talked about social issues, expected to get a pat on the back for not disowning his gay daughter, even though he severely disapproved of her.
The truth is that society breeds homophobia by virtue of putting it in fucking everything, and religion isn’t the only motivator.
When we visit my mother-in-law we are lodged in The Shrine, wherein is the Wall of Grandchildren: floor to ceiling bookshelves filled w photos of my niephew-in-laws ….
This is my mom rn =[
Joyce can’t give your mom grandkids! That’s just silly. ;p
I actually laughed out loud at that. Well played Cholma, well played. 😀

My husband’s folks had to have four offspring to get a shot at grandkids. Mine stopped at two was their mistake, I guess!
So the overall mood of your comment implies that you don’t plan on having children, period.
Is it THAT or is it that you don’t feel ready yet?
Not judgin, curious.
Didn’t see this before but I guess commenting on old posts isn’t locked HERE!
So as it turns out I will probably die if I have any, hope that answers it 😬👍
Anyone else have a favored nibling (niece/nephew) whose mere birth prevented this scene?
I’ll never know, as my first nephew came along when I was still in college. Phew!
Niephew
Fortunately I already have a nephew so I don’t have to deal with this from my parents.
Same.
What makes her say her other kids failed her? She’s got like 5, jesus.

Just to show even though the Mrs.Brown in This AU might be cooler than the one in DoA but she almost just as much as a loon.
Wow! Proxy biological clock! That’s a new one!
I really, really hope that this side of Mrs. Brown asserts herself in the Dumbiverse at some point.
“Mom, this is Jacob.”
“Is he gay?”
“No.”
“Jewish?”
“No.”
“Atheist?”
“No.”
“Canadian?”
“No.”
“I’ll send out the wedding invitations.”

Eh, they’ve all hit their mid to late 20’s without kids, to her they’re decrepit old spinsters.
She’s a Trumpian Republican, he’s a black man. Add a fifth question regarding whether he’s antifa/BLM.
And also whether he’s on welfare, stealing “muh tax dollars!”

Oof. Touché, and sorry to hear it.
Pushy much?

Wait, Mrs Brown in this universe is pro-premarital hanky panky?
Also, do they know? I mean, for definite?
If things start cracking, you are doing it wrong.
