well that was a deep cut
a deep cut with a little massaging
Man, nothing says “this bit of entertainment was written by a guy who grew up in the 80s” than sci-fi technology being compared to how VHS tapes work. This is still a good twist resolution, I think, and I still like it.
Lots of people talked about the glowy eyes at the time. His eyes are… probably not ACTUALLY glowing, but it helps sell in quick visual language that 1) yikes, and 2) he’s not quite all right.
It sure is convenient that Walky’s VHS tape didn’t have one or two more erasures left in it.
So… when you totally corrupt a VHS cassette, it will rise up against its human overlords?
Kinda the eventual fate of all tech, no?
Just remember: Be kind, rewind. Or reality as we know it will cease to exist.
DOC WAS RIGHT?!?!
Man, Soggies really WILL rule someday!
I’m glad that his mind wasn’t erased, but the fact that Walky is basically describing his mind as unstable worries somewhat.
Joyce joins a long list of comic book significant others whose main duty is to stop the heroic protagonist from losing it and becoming as much of a threat to the innocent as they are to the guilty.
Sure–but remember they’re both doing that. Joyce has gone through her arc and is more mentally stable than she was previously, but she’s been wiped almost as much as Walky and has her own hangups still; they keep each other from blowing up the sun.
….okay, but that honestly seems accurate and reasonably self-aware as a descriptor. Considering he did, like, not even *five minutes ago* — BEFORE they even tried to mind-wipe him — attempt to beat Mike to death with his bare fists?
I mean, the fact that he’s this unstable is worrying, for sure. Still up on his twin Sal, though! He hasn’t tried to end the world yet.
WHAT A TWEEST
“Me more than most.”
Am I the only one who thinks that feels sorta out of place after the previous statement?
Nope.
*Old Man McGuckett voice* My mind’s been gone for thirty-odd years!
You can’t break what’s already broken!
Looking back, this is the arc where Walky suddenly stopped being a joke and started being terrifying with his strength and violence, not to mention the fact that he had a talent for trying to make everything sound like it was other people’s fault.
“That’s my secret, folks. I’m ALWAYS brain-damaged!”

Debuting this fall in the pages of Marvel Comics
My third favourite IW strip. Somehow it was even better than I remembered it.
