Four years later, and finally payoff on that cape pointing out of the bottom of panel three.
I play the long game.
Wow, the evolution in art style between this and the linked comic is striking.
Seriously.
Yeah. If Willis hadn’t pointed it out, I would not have recognized that… shape… as a cape.
I think I just gave myself whiplash by clicking that link.
I completely forgot about that story arc where Anti-Head Alien was created. And I definitely would not have realized that thing at the bottom of the linked strip is his cape if you hadn’t mentioned it.
I like that this is coming right after a sequence reminding us about Anti-Joyce, so it’s not totally out of nowhere.
So since this Head Alien was created by the dup-o-matic I assume he’s a nice guy and not an evil jerk, but he’s not as funny or sassy like the original.
This is *too* well-hidden of a long game for me. I absolutely did not realize that was meant to be a cape, and I still wouldn’t if you hadn’t pointed it out. This doesn’t feel like a long awaited payoff so much as a justifiable retcon. Which is, y’know, fine, but one way I think Willis’ storytelling has gotten better is indicating that something has been set up?
Nice gravatar for this strip, at least!
I don’t think you know what a retcon is.
Well, whatever you call it when something is discovered to have happened previously that wasn’t firmly established in the text. If that’s not retroactive continuity, what is?
Head Alien being duplicated was absolutely established in the text.
