on April 21, 2016 at 12:01 amChapter: The Sensitive Scanner
Characters: Anthony McHenry, David Walkerton, Dina Sarazu, Jason Chesterfield, Joyce Brown, Mike Warner, Professor Doc, Sal Walters
Location: Big Boss's office
I swear that in that last panel, Joyce is shaking her fist in rage, not making a jerk-off motion.
joyce…the most important thing fir correctly shaking a fist in rage…is orientation
not that jerking off doesn’t also lead to a greater knowledge of explodology
xD +1
I mean, either would be an understandable reaction.
“High energy physics,” Dina.
JOYCE is really grasping amirite lolololol
*goes over there now→*
Can we focus on how terrible a boss Big Boss is, here? I mean, asking the Prof and then Dina to measure Joyce’s field-readiness was just fine, based on the information he had about the situation, but how does he not have someone ready to step up and take Joyce’s place?
He just sort of says “Well, you’re short a member,” asks a rhetorical question as if he expects the problem to resolve itself, and then rolls right over when it does, not because of Dina’s skill set or nonexistent super powers or even the sort of can-do spirit that’s good for morale, but because of her obvious desperation to go on this mission.
If obvious desperation is a reason to hire someone for a job, then a lot of HR staffers who interviewed me from 2008-2011 or so owe me some big apologies.
Wait, are you saying that Don Quixote isn’t that good of a knight?
“Mr. Hoover, If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you.”
– Calvin Coolidge
* You know, right before the stock market tanked.
Maybe he’s aware that this is the best he can do?
I mean, this isn’t any regular workplace; the staff is inheritly limited.
It’s not like Big Boss has many other options. Everyone else is probably missing, dead, already deployed or not ready to be sent on an urgent mission. Dina is already hired and likely knows more about alien technology than the rest of the squad 128. Just not explodology.
The number of members in a squad shall be five, no more, no less. Five shall be the number of the squad, and the number of the squad shall be five. Six shalt thou not have, neither have thou four, excepting that thou then proceed to five. Seven is right out. Once the number five, being the fifth number, be reached, then dispatcheth thou thy squad towards thy head alien, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.
Shouldn’t have done that Dina, Doc will surely put you to work even more in the lab…oh, and there’s Joyce too.
I saw that as her just clenching her hand, not shaking it.
Maybe Anti-Joyce is secretly still alive somehow, and that’s her making the shake-off motion?
This is a even worse decision because from this point on she proves that she is freaking useless on the field.
Not just on the field.
I choose to believe that Dina’s decision to research Explodology is in fact her life’s mission, and she’s being 100% serious in that final panel.
(SPOILERS BELOW)
That way her final appearance seems like more of a triumph than anything.
It was the best she could do.
Can we retcon Joyce to be making the jerk off motion?
She’s not?
Pacifist, Scientist, same thing.
Ok, so Joyce isn’t doing a jerk-off motion but, is Dina holding an invisible shotgun?
She wants to perform a case study on the effects of anger on the human female.
Uh, Dina, maybe you should stay the hell away from explosions
