Dang, and Dotty’s a lefty so that ain’t even her strong arm.
Gotta do the silhouette second panel to better sell the Talking In Orange, so to speak. Do you think the voice literally comes out of her, like in a cartoon, or is there merely a change in register?
so the old walkyfont didn’t have a bold Q, huh
Oh dammit now I will never unsee that
I downloaded the old font a while back (link) and it doesn’t appear to have any other styles (bold, extra bold, italic, etc.) associated with it at all. It’s probably just the regular font with the faux bold and italic effects that you can apply to any font– the letterforms look pretty similar. It just seems to have worked poorly on the Q in particular for some reason.
I’m gonna say it’s a register change. Like the Kimiko Glenn-imitating-Catherine Tate bit in Ducktales.
You’re talking about Magica, right?
Yep! The bodyswap sort of trope RassilonTDavros discusses below.
kinda looks like she has a fang tooth in the silhouette
I dunno about equals, Dotty
how are your farts?
Assuming Direct Control
I’m not familiar enough with Jon Lovitz to have a proper feel for his voice in my head when reading Head Alien dialogue, and I don’t really know what Dorothy sounds like (beyond tending to hear her as… relatively low, I guess?), so I dunno about the voice question.
I usually tend to prefer cartoon brain-swap episodes that treat the voices as a function of the body and not the brain, both because it’s more fun to hear the VAs play each others’ characters and because it makes more sense. But possession stories, which seems to be what we have here, I’m a little more split on. If nothing else, there should probably be a difference between “Dorothy, following HA’s plan but still in full control,” “Dorothy, partially controlled by HA,” and “HA in full control of Dorothy’s body.” Maybe Lovitz speaking alongside Dorothy’s VA for partial influence, and then Dorothy’s VA imitating Lovitz for full control?
…also geez heady you sound like you wanna pull a reverse-mike on linda
and the right hand thing is some nice foreshadowing
I’m assuming HA can’t really change Dorothy’s vocal chords, so she still sounds like Dorothy even with HA now talking through her. Which would make things kinda confusing for Walky unless HA says he’s controlling Dorothy right now.
TBH, modifying a pawn’s vocal chords so that he could speak with his own voice through them at at the moment of a dramatic reveal seems entirely like something HA would do.
… You know, he really would. Or putting some kind of technological modulator. I don’t think Walky gets the reveal here? (Genuinely don’t remember for sure) But even if he isn’t doing it here, I will assume he did still MAKE that modification, but whatever trick for it is harder to do while bodyjacking someone.
That’s an interesting way to try and woo a guy away from his fiancée you got there Dotty.
It’s a change in register because Dorothy’s voice actress is amazing. Fun fact: Her voice actress also played the president in a few episodes of Dexter and Monkey Master.
I’d like to think of it as her “voice actor” as it were just doing a really good imitation of his speech.
I spoke too soon
Also damn, one hit? That’s a killer right hook
