“Culmination” cleared out a lot of outstanding plot threads and character hooks, which means in the wake of resolving that stuff, I had to look to see where there was fresh soil left to till. Jason’s past, or rather the narrative’s up-to-then complete ambivalence regarding it, was one such area. Time to dig!
what happened to doing background checks BEFORE hiring folks
oh wait, SEMME
Hey, you! You… big, nasty… thing!
The Symbol of Extra-Terrestrial Oppression Punished
Joyce WHAT?
That TRAMP!
Mind wipe victim
Dude, I want a career
I’m Ho-ome!
Petty and incompetent
Girls — Tackle!
I ought to shoot you.
I mean, seriously, Jason’s not even an abductee.
But he is enough of a badass that he can fight abductees without killing them…did no one find this suspicious?
SEMME is so short-staffed, they can’t afford to find anything suspicious.
And next thing I knew
Sal, what are you doing down here?
You don’t have to stay
How’s “The Talk” coming?
Isn’t it past your bedtime?
Psyche! Evaluation! page 1
Thank the maker
Tell me, Sal…
Mr. Belly Button
So she’s gone?
CLANK!
How’s “The Talk” coming?
And then the sperm
How’d you get in here
Those ain’t curling irons…
To be fair, the narrative didn’t delve into the past of several other SEMME members until much later as well.

Oh man, there’s tiny, tiny text on that sheet.
Looks like…
Name: Jason Chesterfield
Age: ?
Sex: ?
Birthstone: ?
Yeah, they really need to fill in that vital information.
Pretty sure that last one’s background.
I’m pretty sure the last category reads “Background”.
While I’m sure that’s true, I would love it if they really did see each agent’s birthstone as an important fact to know about them.
His sex is unknown?
Well, they can be pretty sure of his gender, but I can totally see being in a situation to confirm his sex being rare.
You figure they don’t have medicals?
No one’s ever seen him not fully dressed, so some suspect he’s secretly a crossdresser.
Or, y’know, trans?
Ah, yes. You seem to’ve been involved in a severe internal breach/betrayal such that our own operatives faced “friendly” fire but: “don’t leave town” seems sufficient as a response???
comix logix: it is in effect, clearly. -_-
(I mean, yeah. it’s absolutely been in operation a lot before now but nonetheless, this is just FUCKING EGREGRIOUS honestly.)
I mean, it IS SEME, where you expecting competence?
I’m not sure why Jason ever thought that was a bonus for him?
Tony’s arm crossing! I don’t like that guy. He’s just so smug for a dead guy/clone!
