He’s yellow.

If we understand the mechanics of how this works, Joyce wouldn’t be so worried. But Joyce doesn’t understand, so she’s rightfully freaking out a bit.
and wait, she can feel danny’s hair?
like…
…..all… of his hair???
hrn
So. Should I tag the squiggles on the window in the upper left corner as Dina?
I mean, you once tagged Ryan in Dumbing of Age merely because just his blood was on-panel…
yeah but i hate ryan
I’m pretty sure you’re a monster if you don’t.
Is tagging a sign of hate, then?
Considering what happens to the characters in his comics, yes.
Should we be relieved the cricket in Ruth’s dorm was never tagged, then?
Also, Sal’s parents’ decomposing skeletons got tagged.
Counterpoint in this situation could be…that squiggle on the window is mainly residue from whatever else was in the lab (pieces of the bomb included)?
She can feel his chest hair!
The only way to confirm it exists at all.
In this case that’s a singular noun.
She can feel all of Danny’s pubic hair!
I had to go back and re-read what Willis’ wrote for this strip because I forgot why Danny didn’t turn yellow when Sal had the power booster rod. Yeah, I’m pretty sure Joyce doesn’t think Walky is perfect or whatever.
My take on it was that Danny didn’t turn yellow because Sal didn’t want to incinerate him. In this case, Joyce isn’t trying to incinerate anyone, just paint a spotlight on them. She wants to protect Walky just as much as anyone else (if not more), so he’s also colored yellow.
I think the idea is that Danny didn’t turn yellow because he was a point of cognitive dissonance for Sal?
TOO SOON
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah they were all yellow
Wow, that song is about It’s Walky! It’s so obvious now!
(That was a joke, to be clear. But now that you have made this perfect connection, I will probably always associate that song with this comic.
Like, wow, man.
FWIW, I’m sort of writing a superhero fanfic epilogue to the Walkyverse (that runs parallel to the end of Shortpacked). It’s Joyce’s reaction to the Branch that makes me think of giving her the code-name ‘Archangel’… or possibly ‘Phoenix’.
Meanwhile, based on Sal’s smile, I think that she believes that she’s just turned Joyce into a tactical nuclear bomb and doesn’t care.
I love Penny’s expression in this strip.
NOOOOOOO!!!!
Well, then, *I’m* not gonna make the obvious Donovan reference either.
