We’ll search ALL of Canada if we got to.
on August 22, 2018 at 12:01 amYeah, let’s start in media res. As Robin lampshades (remember, she’s always the genre-savvy one), things have been PRETTY HEAVY for a while, so it’s good to jump into some action. Hopefully some funny action! Action that isn’t about sadness and betrayal and what have you! … There’ll be plenty of that after this storyline.
Look at me, sneaking in another appearance of the SEMME Battleship from the Fans! crossover.  And look at me again, putting Our Heroes on a certain highway in Ontario which is home to a certain fictional town.  Watch out for rogue dryer sheets.
This is my wife’s favorite storyline, by the way. I won’t spoil why for the first-timers.
Wow I thought we had a few sides strips left before this, Honestly think this in my book marks the beginning of us reaching end game.
I didn’t realize until now just how close we were to the end either. It’s basically just Canada and then the big stuff now, isn’t it?
Wow I did not realize we were so close to the end.
The Big Stuff definitely runs long, though; I remember expecting the comic to basically end very shortly but somebody below listed the number of days to go and we basically have a year left. Still… I remember at the time I was trying to explain to people why the end of It’s Walky was so important and nobody really got it. I dunno, the days of early webcomics are something I miss a lot for a variety of reasons, but I think at the very least it’s because I haven’t gotten as into a comic’s story and conclusion as I did since IW.
This is one of my favorite storylines as well. I didn’t realize we were coming up to this one so soon.
Ooh, intrigued.
Oh, Wow, I’ve been looking forward to this. One of my fave storylines.
Ah Canada. So many memories.
Apropos of nothing, panel 4 is one of my favorite pictures in Its Walky of Robin.
Ah, yes! I remembered this was coming, I just couldn’t remember when it happened.
I still have a doodle from Willis of Joyce during this storyline. It’s the TO: address on the mailer for some piece of artwork I’d bought. I may post it once it’s no longer a spoiler.
First time around I remember this storyline giving me a bit of emotional whiplash after the previous, but as the time passed and I looked back, I started remembering it with more fondness. It’s actually an appropriate and clever resolution for all this angst, at least in a campy sci-fi setting like this one.
logically, I know that walky and joyce work out (like, pretty sure) but I still hope that she and Joe have a chance despite how bad it could be. It’s like shipping Lois and Quagmire (not b.c of any kinds of similarities, but b.c it’s been shown as a possibility but also lmao emotional investment in family guy is both futile and depressing)
I’ll spoil it for them. But not right now. In like a week.
*sigh* Oh, I miss this town, its High School, and a certain girl with a dryer shirt stuck to her back. Wonder how Josh Phillips is doing today; hope he got his mojo back and has found joy in his life.
Okay, I’ll ask, because this is something I’ve wondered about for a while. I’ve read the comic in question all the way through a couple of times, and it’s enjoyable, but not spectacularly so; but absolutely everyone who ever talks about it in other webcomic comment sections seems to drop to their knees at the mere mention of it. Seriously, they’re like Star Wars fans.
Is it just a case where you had to be there? Is it that in comparison to what else was on the web in 2003, it was lightyears ahead? Or am I missing something else?
It’s all about the naked. 😛
That… certainly is nudity.
Oh, I’m so glad to see this is still up.
Now you know what kind of quality you can find in David’s Slipshine art.
Well, I certainly enjoyed the comic itself & the characters, but I guess what made it magical was the community that arose around It’s Walky! & Avalon. The forums were lively and fun, with both artists participating on a regular basis. And, of course, as Bo pointed out above, the “SMUT WITHOUT WARNING” posts were always good; bringing in both fan art from forum veterans and new-comers, as well as the comic authors themselves.
It was 100000000% the community
I was part of an art community back in the day with a similar vibe, but it would hold absolutely nobody’s interest if it were around today what with market saturation and all (at the time, it was basically the only one)
Absolutely the community. To this day when I see one of the old-timers from that era, like Cholma, BunnyThor, Jen Aside, Animal (where the hell IS Animal?) I regard them as my ol’ friends from forever ago.
If I left you off that list I’m not slighting anyone- I’m typing this on my phone (another thing you couldn’t do back then—)
The most obvious missing ones would be BrassyDel, Mr Smeggers, Starline, and Rakka, plus a few others whose nicks I can’t recall.
As for Animal, he has shunned all social media as being “too high of a noise-to-signal ratio” and he & his wife are still looking to retire to Alaska one day.
The names just keep coming back to me, sheesh. Packy, GrassyNoel, Keradon (and the missus) Animal’s missus, and Gwalla.
I remembered this storyline when I read IW! for the first time.
Hey! I agree with Robin! HA is funny, especially when he’s trying not to be!
Here we are, I’ve been looking forward to this one since Dina.
Also, this is Sun Nov 9, 2003. 353 days.
Oh jeez, is that the countdown? I remember the “end” of It’s Walky felt like a completely life-changing event and both dreaded and looked forward to it as it was happening. (It also happened during my early college years when it felt like my whole life was opening up, so I was primed for anything and everything to be a BIG DEAL.)
I’m getting very nostalgic and sad for the days when this comic was first running. Ah jeez. I’m deep in my feelings now.
I’ll chime in that this is *also* one of my favorite IW! storylines. I’ll also hedge on why to avoid spoilers.
Yeesh, frikken Americans, just waltzing into our backyard to look for aliens without even asking…
Hey, I grew up near that highway in Ontario. Actually, I still live near it…that thing seems like it stretches from one end of the province to the other.
So you must have been to the town this arc takes place in, then.
Yes, I’ve been especially looking forward to this story arc!
If I remember correctly, it was this page that led me to rediscover that wonderful webcomic.
