I don’t know how to explain…
on March 16, 2017 at 12:01 amOkay, now this is the shit. I’m still proud of this one. I mean, sure, the panel borders are still a little more of that random ruler zig-zagging, but otherwise everything comes together nicely. There’s action with a good sense of movement, there’s dialogue that’s efficient and to the point, and it’s all in the service of delivering an important idea. Joyce has become something new, something better, while Sal has been fighting herself to remain the same. And there’s this feel of narrative accomplishment when we look back and remember that Joyce was the crazy one, the one who wanted to change everything just to be Sal, and now here she is denouncing Sal while building herself up, the tables having been turned, while also there is punching.
The strip is 15 years old, but I still have an Italian finger kiss for it.

Also,
It’s nice to see the past bashing has become self-aggrandizingly satisfaction at a strip well done.
I have always loved this fight since I first saw it, even though I lacked the “Round 1” context.
You deserve to feel good about it.
I CAN’T HEAR YOU I AM BEING BEATEN UP
As someone who is reading this comic for the first time: this is easily the best strip so far.
Joyce has taken a level in badass, while Sal remains the same as she was before.
Villain forgot to level grind!
I always loved how Joyce just throughly, completely, and totally kicks Sal’s ass in this one. I mean, there is NO doubt, she is power, control, determination, and badassery and Sal ends up looking like a rag doll.
And remember, Sal has *always* been my favorite in this comic.
“I’m the furry, I’m the patience, I’am the conversation.” ~
…I want to continue the song, but I’m pretty sure Garnet isn’t a furry. 😛
Just out of curiosity: what’s so bad about the zig-zaggy ruler things?
I’ve had that print on the wall beside my computer for the last 13 years (#20 of 20). It’s a good print.
Of course, it’s a little easier to kick Sal’s ass when you have a jetpack. (For one thing, she can’t escape by climbing up a building.)
She’s cheating!
Y’know, it never occurred to me until the commentary on this strip, that the voice “somewhere inside” her head, was probably Danny/Joe from before her memory loss, when she was vying for Danny’s love versus Sal the long distance relationship. For whatever reason, I’d always read it solely in the context of It’s Walky! and couldn’t figure out what the big deal was.
Commentary leads to a blown mind, and even greater appreciation for this strip.
I’m pretty sure that at some later point she explicitly tells Danny it was his voice.
Ketchup fight!
